Aluminum production requires hydropower, meaning dams and mining, both of which damage habitats, destroy natural resources, burn energy, and produce carbon dioxide and acid rain. Recycling aluminum prevents much of that damage from being repeated and saves more than 90% of the energy used to make new aluminum.

If you missed the deadline but would still like to see the remarkable sequel to The Rock and The Rabbi, tickets to the July 11th performance of The Witnesses are still available through the First Community Bank of Galena. Come join the group from Shepherd of the Hills for traveling fun, fellowship, a delicious lunch, and the inspirational performance that will enrich your faith. Contact Sue Cording (777-2636) or LaVonne Ohms at First Community Bank (777-6300).
The May discussion of Left to Tell was lively and well-led by Sarah Hesselbacher. On June 23, Pam Ohms will lead the discussion of the best-seller The Shack. The group will not meet in July, but we will meet on August 18 for a discussion of A Lesson Before Dying, led by Deb Ehrler. September's book choice is yet to be determined. If you enjoy books or just like to participate in discussions that involve Christian faith and today's issues, please mark your calendar to join the book discussion group. Meetings begin at 6:30 in the evening and are over by 8:00.
Summer Brunch Dates have been scheduled for the second Sunday of each month: 6/14/09, 7/12/09, & 8/9/09. This will take place between services from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The money collected will go to benevolent causes.
We continue to collect non-perishable food pantry items for our local food pantries. The offerings of food have been down recently so please remember them when you are in the grocery store and pick up something and put it in the container at the back of the sanctuary.
