GREEN THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Plastic bag tax bills have been introduced in cities and states in the United States; and many stores have taken the lead by charging customers for disposable bags, encouraging them to bring their own or buy reusable onsite ones. These measures could go a long way toward bag waste reduction in our communities. The EPA says that 34% of all plastic bottles are recycled. Recycling saves about half the energy used to make a new plastic bottle and conserves petroleum. We can extend the functional life of plastic through recycling into many different products, including other containers and even durable planks to replace wood in outdoor building projects, such as walkways and benches in parks.

DEDICATIONS

Today we dedicate 3 items which have been given in memory of loved ones who have died.  The first is a projector which is used for our Power Point presentations during worship.  The money was donated by Hank Thomssen's four adult children as well as several other anonymous donors.  We also dedicate the screen which is used with the projector.  It was purchased with several individual donations as well as money from the General Fund.

The other item being dedicated is the Stained Glass Window in the Gathering Center of Jesus the Good Shepherd which was made and donated by Maxine Dittmar in memory of her husband John.  We thank her for her generous gift and the time spent in making the window.  We also thank the Stained Glass Committee who worked with Maxine in choosing the design of the window. They Pam Ohms, Karen Velsor,  Paula McPeek and Gail Israel.
